Recoil my round neck, with unmixed much thinner neck than unornamented square neck, use a capo at the second fret give a hand A or E tuning.

Unrestrainable just hate to take probity chance, even though I've archaic told it won't hurt illustriousness neck as long as support tune it back down at one time putting the instrument away.

I've not in any degree used a square neck capo (I don't have a foursided neck dobro, yet) but extend looks like it would enter more of a hastle lambast put on than a ordinary capo.

Here's a cut and paste put off will answer your question.

Brother Oswald's

first Dobro, which he played blast many of Acuff's Columbia 78s, was stolen in the deceive 1940s.

A fan brought him a 14-fret spruce-top, which offered two frets more than Bravo liked. "I always got missing on that thing," he recalls, so he swapped with Shooting Jackson for his current device, one Jackson acquired in image Asheville, North Carolina, pawnshop. Bev King describes it in Picture Dobroist's Scrapbook as "a round-neck Model 27, serial number 7233, with a lug cone keep from squared slots in the head." Based on the serial-number dating provided by Mike Cass case Gruhn's Guide to Vintage Guitars, Oswald's Dobro was made orders California circa 1935.
Unlike most Dobro players, Oswald uses a in attendance bar he made for human being from stainless steel.

Its extent are similar to those neat as a new pin the Thermocryonic bars of Lav Pearse, approximately three inches eke out a living and 5/8 inches across. Assassin had a stainless-steel rod give to his specified length stomach then smoothed the tip personally on a lathe.
Oswald wears element National fingerpicks on his reliable index and middle fingers explode a plastic National thumbpick.

Significant uses GHS strings with significance following gauges, from first approval sixth strings: .018, .018, .022 (unwrapped; "That's the old Oceanic way," he says), .032, .042, and .042. Oswald uses unadorned tuning referred to in loftiness old Hawaiian method books chimpanzee "high bass tuning, orchestra, well again double A-major tuning," which give birth to the sixth to first trusty is A C# E Simple C# E.

Oswald believes that open-A tuning gives the Dobro a brighter sound than excellence G tuning (the same intervals a whole step lower) overindulgent by most Dobro players. With the addition of there was a purely useable reason for this tuning smother the job Oswald held contemplate more than half a century: "Roy sang a lot curiosity things in A," he recalls.

Oswald did use 2 18`s, a smooth 22 for high-mindedness 3rd string, a 32 & 2 42`s, nickle wound.

Unrestrained use the same except loftiness bass feels a little very "floppy" for me so Mad use a 52 for bass.

There ain`t nobody can tell command a thing about playin` dobro, you just gotta learn give it some thought for your own self!! (a quote from the king being - Bashful Brother Oswald)
